Stanfords offer 3 distinctive online services:
Stanfords Portal for planning application maps, large scale vector map data (dxf/dwg/shapefile), height data, and aerial imagery.
Stanfords GIS for property asset management. Acts as a hosting service for your own datasets or a delivery tool for your own services.
Desktop Mapping for customers requiring Ordnance Survey vector map products under the Plan Design Build Licence (PDB) only.
Whilst product information can be found on the relevant product page, we have created a separate Userguides page to support all our Stanfords Portal self-serve customers. If you require telephone support please contact our Service Centre on 0845 880 3730 between 9.00 a.m and 6 p.m monday to friday.
LiDAR
Click here for a general introduction to the Stanfords Portal system. User manuals are available for download on our userguides page.
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is high accuracy, high resolution elevation data derived from airborne sources. A laser is used to measure the distance between the aircraft and ground and between the aircraft and the vegetation canopy or building tops.

Lidar data, similarly to 5m Height Data, are provided in the form of a regular grid of points at 1 or 2m intervals with +/- 0.15m vertical accuracy.
Each point has X, Y and Z coordinates in the British National Grid represented as 6 + 2 digits that gives theoretical positioning precision of 0.01m. For example 530871.00 (X), 189359.00 (Y), 23.51(Z).
Digital Surface Model (DSM) – is a topographic model of the earth’s surface that includes buildings, vegetation, roads, and natural terrain features. The key benefit of the DSM is that it provides a geometrically correct base map.
Digital Terrain Model (DTM) – is a topographic model of the bare earth that has had vegetation, buildings, and other cultural features digitally removed, enabling users to infer terrain characteristics possibly hidden in the DSM.
Unfortunately at the moment there is only coverage for most of the major cities. For towns and rural areas our 5m height data may prove sufficient.
Prices start at £25 + vat for 200 metres x 200 metres of coverage.
To view dxf samples customers must have a version of CAD/Microstation/Vectorworks e.t.c.
