Geographical Information System (GIS)
According to research 85% of information in an organisation has a geographic component which makes a GIS the best way to bring together materials stored in disparate locations, applications and file formats. In effect a GIS creates a central “Clearing House” while also offering all users a single interface.
Also, many organisations suffer from the "silo effect". Information silos can consist of any number of things but the most common are databases, paper documents/ drawings, photographs and spreadsheets.

Using geographical information Stanfords GIS enables customers to “hang” information relating to their properties on to the property address using a series of attribute tables. At it’s most basic level therefore this system acts as a cost-effective portfolio database management tool. The set up process is easy and all map data is hosted and maintained by us so there’s very little maintenance required. Even if you don’t use the map annotation and report tools a GIS of this sort can bring real efficiencies to your business as it ensures that the property information is kept up to date and in one place. Furthermore, because the site is web-based rather than software hosted on local machines, the portfolio is visible by as many people within your organisation as you wish at any one time.
The key to this system is the data layer management tool, designed in such a way as to allow the simple loading of new datasets. It also offers users the ability to simply switch layers on and off. Furthermore, if you already have your own data (Ordnance Survey or otherwise) we are very happy to provide our GIS as a hosting tool that makes the data visible and intelligent. Indeed if you take this one step further it is possible to set up third party arrangements whereby our GIS is used to deliver your services to your clients. An example of this would be the delivery of Energy Performance Certificates to Housing Associations as an uploaded attribute within a GIS portfolio.
This is very much the beginning for this new service. Later this year we will release a new version that enables customers to independently upload their own data layers either as standalone datasets or as integrated layers with OS Mastermap.
In effect this is any business responsible for managing a property portfolio. That said land and property professionals such as architects might also find it useful because the GIS can serve as a project management tool:
