London Delhi by Road is a charity event that my wife Pooja and I are doing in April 2010. We will kick off the drive from London, travel through 15 countries and aim to reach New Delhi, India in approximately seven weeks.
This drive is in aid of an animal charity in India called Friendicoes SECA who lead a hand-to-mouth existence and rarely receive large donations or grants in aid.
Through this event we want to raise funds as well as awareness among people in countries on route our journey on how they can look after their animals better and spread the message that cruelty to animals is not acceptable.
The journey will take us to remote corners of the world, exotic locations and on some of the highest roads in the world. Seeking out the surprising, the unexpected and the unfamiliar is what we are looking forward to.
To reach India we will be driving through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tibet and Nepal .
The last year has gone into researching the various aspects involved in making this journey a reality.
Routes, costs, visas, permits, carnet, the right vehicle for the journey, insurances, accommodation, safety, and food are only some of the things that need to be considered.
These days, both Pooja and I are trying to learn basic Russian, which will be put to test at the border controls in Central Asia….wish us luck!
I am thankful to Stanfords, who have very kindly agreed to provide us with travel literature including guide books and maps to help us during our journey and to make sure that we don’t get lost in the mountains of China or in the deserts of Kazakhstan!
We will be sharing all our experiences through our website www.LondonDelhiByRoad.com where we will be posting regular blogs and pictures during and after the journey.
